Our House, in the Middle of Our Street

Go ahead and sing it.

We bought a house in Idaho Falls that had to be moved. We paid $9500 for it. This is the before picture.

The house was covered in brick, which had to be removed...all of it.

This is what it looked like after the brick was removed and it was lifted off the foundation.

Here we are test driving the new home.

The corners were little tricky, but it handled pretty well, so we kept it.

The house was pretty tall, so we had Utah Power come along and raise the power lines. They only had to unhook one, everything else was raised with a pole

Everyone was excited to see our house take up both lanes on the highway. Well, except one guy, who flipped us off.

It took 3 1/2 hours to travel 11 miles!

Some of the neighbors were a bit annoyed with all the commotion.

We made the drive safely with only a few problems along the way. The truck pulling it overheated some and our neighbors tree limb went through a wall, just big enough to put your arm through. No bid deal.

Then the house movers had the task of putting the house on it's new foundation. That's pretty amazing to watch.



They had to "crib" the house up with 8x8 logs, then put i-beam long enough to go across the foundation and under the house. There was also i-beam under the house that had been sitting on wheel axels. They put wheels between the 2 differents sets of i-beam to pull the house over the foundation. You can see the cable connected to the red truck, it had a hoist pulling it along.

Once the house is positioned correctly they use hydraulic jacks to set it down. All the jacks are connected so they all move together smoothly. Then they take out the i-beam and we had the holes in the foundation patched up.
